You know I love my pizza loaded and crust as thin as possible. So I ended up eating my pizza by rolling them up cause the crust is so thin, it can’t hold the loaded toppings. I never even try to make my own pizza because I can get it from &pizza as cheap as $11. There are some stuff you prefer to buy out instead of making your own.
So this idea of making a stromboli came up to me, since this is basically how I eat my pizza, why not just roll it up since the cooking process. Obviously there is no specific recipe for this, cause everyone has their own. There are just some rules to follow, like how to roll them up and what type of meat and cheese to put in it.
I chose to use cold cuts from the local deli, I don’t know how much to buy, like a quarter pound, half, a whole pound? So I decided to go by slices, I told the butcher or deli person, to get 3 types of cold cuts at 12 slices each. And I settled with ham pepperoni and prosciutto. All the pigs for me to pig out.
Ingredients:
1 tube thin crust refrigerated pizza dough
1/2 cup marinara sauce -divided
12 slices ham
12 slices pepperoni
12 slices prosciutto
1 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese – shredded and divided
1/4 cup parmesan cheese -grated
1 tsp italian seasoning
2 tbsp fresh parsley -chopped
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 400F. Roll the dough out and stretch it out on a piece of parchment paper. Spread 2tbsp of marinara sauce leaving about 2 inches from the edge. Top with ham, then mozzarella cheese, pepperoni then mozzarella cheese and end with prosciutto.
- Roll the dough up like a cinnamon roll and pinch the edges to seal and fold where the seam is. Lay the stromboli seam side down. Cut small slats on the top. Top with 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning and sprinkle with fresh parsley.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Serve with the rest of marinara sauce.
Notes: I rolled out the pizza crust on the parchment paper with a rolling pin to create even thinner crust. Just be careful to not tear the dough!
